Scary....

(This is probably a TMI post, just to warn everyone)

I had a scary episode last night.  Maybe someone can tell me they went through this too, and everything was fine.  I woke up in the middle of the night to extreme cramping pain in my uterus.  It actually felt similar to contractions I had with my miscarriage.  I thought that I must have to use the washroom, but when I tried to, I couldn't.  Everything was so tensed up that I couldn't even pee.  I broke out into a cold sweat and felt my face get drained of all blood.  Finally I was able to pee a bit, which brought some relief.  I went back to bed to see if the cramping would cease, but it did not.  A few minutes later I had to get up again and had a bowel movement.  Then I lay back down again, and eventually the pain subsided and I was able to sleep again.

Today I have been scared all day, but I haven't had any spotting.  I vaguely remember a similar incident last time I was pregnant, except that this felt more severe.  Could it just have been an expanding uterus putting pressure on my bowels?  That's all I have found on google as I have tried to comfort myself.  I did call the midwives today, but they did not help that much.  They just said it didn't sound like miscarriage symptoms, and to let them know if anything more happened.  My lower back has been a bit sore again today, and my uterus feels like it is stretching, but that is all.  I am just worried because the pain seemed pretty intense for just regular cramping (and breaking out into a sweat seemed a bit unnecessary).

Has anyone else experienced something like this?  I am trying to relax and believe that everything will be fine.  I just haven't felt as many symptoms the past few days (besides sleeping like crazy). Today is just hard.

  1. Yes. I had horrible cramps/pains throughout the first trimester with my sucessful pregnancy, it was much like you are describing only I had no/very little BM. Eventually when I got to my OB he put me on peri.col.ace which eliminated the pain. He said the pain could have been from pressue/constriction.

    Thinking of you often.

  2. It really does sound like it could be a combination of constipation, a full bladder, and your ute stretching out. No blood is a good sign. I had horrible cramping in the first trimester due to some pretty severe constipation. I would call and ask your doctor about it, but make sure you're drinking lots of water, eating lots of fiber (if you can keep it down) and maybe add something like co.lace or another (doctor-approved) relaxant to help move things along.

  3. This happened to me a couple of times in the first few weeks (except I was also spotting...). I think mine were related to weird gas/constipation &/or the uterus doing its thing. I was kind of in denial about it, so I didn't really talked to anyone about it... never got feedback from an OB.

  4. The relief you had after your bowel movement makes me think that it was more of a GI issue than anything else. I remember having some pretty intense intestinal pain during my first trimester because of constipation. There were times when the cramping was so bad that I couldn't tell if it was in my uterus or my bowels, and it was scary. The fact that it went away and that you had no spotting sounds positive to me. But don't feel bad about calling your doctor about it if you need some extra reassurance.

    Sending you good thoughts....

  5. This happened to me as well a few times in the beginning, but I would have loose stools all the time. My bowel pains/cramps honestly felt like I was having contractions (not that I would know, but what I imagine them to be). The cramps for me lasted quite a while. I just chalked it up to trapped gas/uterus stretching. It was worrisome to me at the time, and now that I am 19 weeks, I still get that gas pain from time to time where I feel like if I don't lay down I might die. No spotting is a great sign. Don't stress out.

  6. I had a similar situation the night before my beta (at 14dpo). I woke up to horrible cramping and was convinced that due to the progesterone, I was having period cramps. After a while I was able to have a bm but I have certainly never had this at 1:30am!

But then my beta showed that I was actually pregnant the next day so I'm not sure what happened. I definitely feel lots of cramping, but it's manageable.
